Two expansions were released for this game, The Road to Rome and The Secret Weapons of WWII. The graphics and visuals of this game are very outdated compared to what we have now, but back then in 2002, it was considered awesome. These classes are Engineer, Assault, Medic, Anti-Tank, and Scout. Each class has different features and is meant to help each other in different ways. This system lets you choose from different classes (roles) to participate in the battle. The well-known class system of Battlefield games was also introduced through Battlefield 1942 for the first time. It combined the mechanics of Death-Match and Capture the flag multiplayer modes for the first time. This game mode has changed the whole meaning of playing first-person shooter games as it overshadowed many other first-person shooter game modes. The Conquest multiplayer game mode was first introduced through this game. While some entries in the series were not that good in terms of the gameplay mechanics or the visuals, they were overshadowed by other critically acclaimed titles such as Battlefield 4. The Battlefield franchise is one of the commercially and critically successful first-person shooters of all time.
